We’re not even a month into this administration, and I’ve already done the one thing I swore I wouldn’t: missed the forest for the trees.
I’ll give myself some grace—the tariffs would hit my wallet hard, so of course, I was worried. But it’s clear now they’re at least partially a distraction.
Canada and Mexico jump on a call with Trump, promise him things they’re mostly already doing, and just like that, he backs down.
Meanwhile, according to the AP:
"Elon Musk is rapidly consolidating control over large swaths of the federal government with President Donald Trump’s blessing, sidelining career officials, gaining access to sensitive databases, and dismantling a leading source of humanitarian assistance.”
Tariffs worry me, but mainly because I know something many Trump supporters don’t: while he manufactures fake wins at home, the rest of the world is learning that the U.S. can’t be counted on.
But what’s happening with Musk? That’s something else entirely. It’s unprecedented. And it’s terrifying.
